In his home city of Oslo, but also in places where Edvard Munch temporarily established his centre of life, numerous traces tell of the artist's life and work. In his will, Edvard Munch stipulated that his artistic work and his entire written estate should go to the city of Oslo. The Munch Museum, opened in 1963, houses the most extensive collection of Munch's art today. According to plans by the Spanish architectural firm Juan Herreros, a new Munch Museum, the "MUNCH", was built not far from the Oslo Opera House in Bjørvika and opened in 2021.

The National Gallery in Oslo and the Rasmus Meyer Collection at KODE Kunst-Museen Bergen also have important collections with outstanding masterpieces by the artist.

Closely linked to his biography are the towns of Fredrikstad, Løten, Åsgårdstrand, Kragerø, Moss and Ekely, where memories and testimonies of Edvard Munch's stay are still impressively present today.
