Edvard-Munch-Haus e.V.

With generous support from the German and Norwegian business community as well as private sponsors, the association was able to purchase the house at Am Strom 53 in 1996. After an extensive restoration and construction phase, it was ceremoniously opened on 11 May 1998 under the patronage of Storting President Kirsti Kolle Grøndal and Bundestag President Rita Süssmuth.

In September of the same year, the first two artists from Norway and Germany moved into the house, bringing about an artistic revival of the place.

We understand the personality of Edvard Munch as a synonym for fruitful bilateral cultural exchange. We see our main task as cultivating this tradition and at the same time providing contemporary impulses for lasting cultural encounters between Norway and Germany.
