Redesigning the inner courtyard

Now the time has come: on November 9, 2024, we had to cut down the pear tree that Edvard Munch memorialized in his painting “Old Man in Warnemünde” in 1907. We carefully removed it in the largest possible pieces, as we want to use the trunk sections for artistic interventions. We have salvaged the lower trunk, which is around 2.30 meters long and now completely hollow, together with the roots, and will store it permanently in the courtyard. Not far from the planting hole in which we will plant a genetic descendant of the old tree. This was taken from a shoot six years ago by the Hinrichs nursery in Kröpelin and grafted onto a rootstock. This little tree is now already two meters tall.
Our association has donated two more trees to the MUNCH,
MUNCHthe new museum opening in Oslo in 2021; they can now be seen on its forecourt.

Since December 16, 2024, we have been redesigning the inner courtyard of the Edvard Munch House according to a design by the garden and landscape planning office Adolphi-Rose. Some of the paving has been changed and old clinker bricks salvaged from a Warnemünde sidewalk have been added to improve accessibility. The southern courtyard wall facing the neighbor has already been completely renovated and a 6-meter-long section has been prepared for an outdoor gallery. Four original-sized Munch paintings created in Warnemünde will soon be on display there. These are reproductions produced using a special glass printing process for the outdoor area.
And of course we want to preserve as many plants as possible that have given the farm its typical flair: the hollyhocks and mallows, roses, margarites and the blue rain.

All of this is also a financial feat for us, which we can only manage with the help of donors. We are therefore particularly grateful for their generous support:
- Kulturfonds des Lands Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
- Jahresköste der Kaufmannschaft zu Rostock
- Stadtwerke Rostock AG
- Lions Club Warnemünde
- Rotary Club Warnemünde
- Warnemünder Bau GmbH
- as well as private individuals

Additional donations are welcome!
